| | corny, but tired | ] | Man, that was a kick-ass Lucero show last night. The only glitch was that Goodman County didn't open for them; where were you guys, bootgazer? Did I just make up that you were supposed to play? I was very saddened that you weren't there.
But Lucero was fantastic, as usual. Libby and I stood near the back and rocked out, hard. The price you pay for all that rockin, though, is a tired ass saturated in cigarette smoke, so after dropping Libby off, coming home, taking a bath, and crawling into bed, it was after 3 before I went to sleep. I was up at 9 to start getting stuff into the U-Haul, and after comparing the amount of stuff I have to the size of the U-Haul interior, I was ready to give up in despair. Fortunately, Libby and dad are expert packers, and we somehow managed to get all of my furniture, Rubbermaid containers, books, cd's, blah blah blah packed away neatly. So now we are ready to hit the road!
I'm sorry I didn't get to hang out more with cool people that I love before I left! Everyone is welcome to come visit me in Iowa any old time you want to. I'll be out of touch for the next week as I settle in and get things set up (the internet, for example, won't be functional until the 22nd), but don't worry; Yehudit will be back to full posting-mode sooner than you think. And now, for corn!

| | informative | ] | Well, kids, the day is finally here. It is time to rope off the journal that is oxfordyehudit and put its contents on a shelf. A new school year is beginning, and as such, I have a new livejournal account. Nothing fancy, just iowayehudit. So I might update oxfordyehudit once or twice more, but from now on turn to iowayehudit for all your Yehudit needs.
As of Sunday night, I shall be a resident of the Tall Corn State. How exciting is that?
Oh, and don't forget Lucero and Goodman County at Hal and Mal's tomorrow night. My famous sister Libby (famous because I mention her here all the time) and I will be in attendance, probably shaking our booties off. So come on down and say goodbye to yours truly. Or, if you're really my friend, come to my house Saturday and help me load all my stuff into a 12-foot U-Haul trailer. Thanks.
Until then, ciao. And make sure to make that all-important switch from Oxford to Iowa. wOOt wOOt. |

| | panicky | ] | So, I just finished watching The Day After Tomorrow, and I come up here and get on the computer, and what's the first headline I see on The Guardian? How about "Warming Hits 'Tipping Point'"? Yeah, that's right - parts of Siberia have started defrosting, and now we're pretty much screwed. One of the researches is quoted as saying that this is an "ecological landslide that is probably irreversible and is undoubtedly connected to climatic warming". Great. Good job, humanity. I think I'm going to get started on that bomb shelter now, so when the next ice age hits, I'll be ready.

| | this is the sound of silence | ] | Sorry I'm a delinquent person. I can't really even remember everything I've done now; I should have updated sooner. Sigh.
So, I'm moving in a week. A week from today I'll be in Iowa City. Wow. Crazy thoughts. Tomorrow I have to call everyone in the entire world (power company, cable company, phone company, apartment managers, Iowa University business office, etc.) to get things set up and make sure all is a-ok. I hate talking on the phone to people like that. I'll just get it out of the way all at once, I suppose. Feh.
Hmmmm, what have I been doing (?). Well, this past week I stayed with my sister for a couple of days while her husband was out of town, and got to spend lots of quality time with the munchkin that is my nephew. His cuteitude overwhelms me, honestly. And on Friday I drove to New Orleans to see my Rick. We ate dinner at this place called Juan's Flying Burritos, went to see March of the Penguins, and walked around the Quarter until we ended up at Cafe Du Monde and ate beignets. Then we watched this ka-ray-zee movie called Cemetery Man that had Rupert Everett in it - probably one he'd like to forget he did. Saturday morning Rick made me his famous french toast, which was honestly the best french toast I've ever had, and I drove back home to sleep and talk to my moopet. Today I've been organizing and sifting through stuff, and for a bit I had my Cakes to keep me company. wOOt wOOt.
So, this week is already shaping up to be crazy. Tomorrow night I have dinner with two of my favorite ladies in the whole wide world. Then Tuesday I have dinner with Cakes and the lovely Ms. Gupta. Then Wednesday I have dinner at Char with the family. Then Friday there's Lucero and Goodman County at Hal and Mal's, and Saturday is all about loading my stuff into various cars and a 12 foot U-Haul trailer. Oy. Somewhere in there I've got to pack and finish all business type items around here. El crazy o.
Anyone else been watching Six Feet Under? I still can't believe it.
Really I've just been lying around a lot, eating and waiting for the next time I get to talk to my moopet. And going through the mountains of shite I have accumulated in my short life. And reading the new Nick Hornby, which is really good. FYI. |

I'm in the paper today. Mwahahahahahahhaah.
I promise a longer update this weekend sometime. I'm at my sister's tonight, and then tomorrow I'm going to New Orleans to see Rick. Yay!!!!!!!
Oh, and start making plans now to go see Goodman County and Lucero at Hal and Mal's next Friday night. I'm leaving two days after that, so if a bunch of people come to the show it'd be like a neat little farewell thing. And since I haven't had enough time to see all the people I've wanted to see since I got home, it might give me the chance to do that. wOOt wOOt. |

Last week I spent lots of time with the fam, including my nephew Michael, whom my parents kept for the whole week. One day we went to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science to see the T-rex named Sue; Libby and the munchkin came along, and I got a cute picture of them.
( Libby, a boy named Jake, and Sue )
Earlier that day we were trying to get Jake to pose with the new Harry Potter book, and we got this picture:
( A Little Light Reading )
On Wednesday I had lunch with the ladies from the law firm. It was great to see them! They are a wacky bunch. :)
Also on Wednesday I ran around like a crazy person getting ready to go to Iowa City. And then saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Libby. Adored it.
And on Thursday morning, armed with Chick-fil-a chicken biscuits, my friend Ryan and I headed out for the 12+ hour drive to Iowa. We skirted around St. Louis and headed straight up through Iowa on a four-lane highway. We saw lots of corn.
And on Friday we started looking at apartments. Quite a few of them were unliveable holes, but the apartment management guy sort of wised up and showed us some non-hole ones toward the end. After the morning, we drove around Iowa City and saw the campus, which is pretty darn neat, and went to the mall, which contains a plethora of fantabulous shops. We went and looked at a few more hole-like apartments, ate at a Steak and Shake, and called it a night. Saturday morning we went to look at an apartment in a house owned by this really nice family, and although it would have been a good place to live, the place was freaking tiny. I'm not even sure I would have been able to fit my bed in the bedroom, much less my other furniture. So yeah. That was it as far as the apartment hunting, and I decided to go with one of the ones I'd seen Friday morning. I just mailed the lease and checks back to them, so I'm now the proud renter of a two bedroom on a quiet street relatively near the campus. wOOt wOOt.
Saturday afternoon it was back to the mall for food and Wedding Crashers, which was predictably unimpressive. Went to bed early, as we had to get up at like 4:30 and get on the road in order for Ryan to catch a plane in Memphis at like 4. Before we left, I took a picture of Ryan in front of the Sinclair gas station, with the dinosaur. This was the only picture I took the whole time we were in Iowa, but I don't really need pictures of corn, honestly.
( Ryan's new pet )
Sunday was a long day. I've never been so tired or sore in my life.
Monday I ran around doing errand type things in the morning and then drove down to the coast with my parents to take my nephew Michael home. We spent the night down there and my folks ate a lot of seafood.
Yesterday we got back, I talked to Moops for a second, and hightailed it up to Greenwood to see Maggie Purifoy, who's about to move to Minnesota. I came back today and (hopefully) finished up all this apartment business.
I'm so tired of driving I could puke. |

At various times in the evening I was surrounded by chrysippvs, glissandi, scottish_jew, thorin2003, concentricboy, the lovely Megan, my buddies Shane and Walter from the University Press, and some of Walter's friends. Megan, scottish_jew and I were the coolest of the bunch, though, since we made wands, got our faces painted, and took pictures with the store's Harry Potter look-a-like. Wheeeeee! We also got a ton of free stuff - a poster, a bracelet, some activity sheets, a 'wizard passport', Potter-esque eyeglasses, lightning bolt tattoos - you name it! Oh, and I made Butterbeer labels for the pre-party, and Duncan carried a root beer bottle with the Butterbeer label on it to B&N - it was a huge hit! I had two extra labels in my purse and gave them out to a few folks, but I should have brought more! It was a hoot. Anyway, here's the pictoral documentation, including the first public photos of my hair chopped off!
( Yours truly, enjoying some Butterbeer )

The rest of the weekend I spent reading the book and being depressed about apartment hunting. But today I talked to a bunch of peeps up in Iowa, and I now have three appointments (some to see multiple apartments) for Friday and Saturday, which rocks my face off. Tomorrow I'm going to the Jackson zoo with Mom, my nephew Michael (who's staying with us for the week), my sister Libby, and my nephew Jake. I haven't been to the zoo in forever! Wednesday I'm finally going to get to see my lovely friend Virginia, my personal saviour and the creator of the best care packages in the whole world. While I'm at it, I'll see my friend Cynthia, another member of the 'coolest people in the world' club. Yay!
Oh, and my ebay stuff is going well. Looks like two of the dresses are the subject of some bidding war action. Hells yeah!
Also, I miss the Moop. A lot. But I'm getting to talk to him almost every day, which is good. Moops, I love you! |

Had a really great weekend. Got a phone call from the ever-lovely Megan Morrison Saturday morning, then met up with her for some lunch at Broad Street (and saw hereunderthesun! yay!). Megan is living with my kick-ass friend Shane from the University Press, so I totally busted up into their house and commandeered them for the afternoon/evening. We ate some Moe's; we watched some Lost in Translation; we mused on the Tour de France. About 9:30 I went to Drew's to consume large quantities of Pina Colada's, but his cat got to me (my eyes were so itchy that I longed to take them out to wash them), so as soon as soberness hit I went to Wal Mart for eye drops and then home. The people who go to Wal Mart at 3 in the morning are i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-i-n-g, my friends.
Sunday I spent some time with my eldest sister and her two kids - the ones who came up from the coast to escape the hurricane Dennis. Sunday night I went out with my other sister, Libby, for some O'Charley's, some Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and some more late-night Wal Mart action. I got home to realize that my eldest sis and her crew had already gone home, so the house was pretty quiet again. Their house and all their stuff on the coast was a-ok, so that's good.
Yesterday I did a whole lot of nothing besides eat (Mexican for lunch; Macaroni Grille with Cakes for dinner), help my mom clean out some closets, and get my hair cut WAY too short. chrysippvs went with me, which was good, because I needed the moral support after the lady cut it WAY too short. I'll have pictures soon.
Today I've been depressed. I miss the Moops so much it aches. I got to talk to him this afternoon, and will call him again tomorrow. I think it's really all just hit me, and it hurts worse than anything I've ever felt. He's my soul, and he's so far away. There's nothing to be done but muddle through, though. My parents are dragging me out of the house tomorrow to go to some casino somewhere in Mississippi - that golden moon one, or something? And Moops has forbidden the use of Old Sad Bastard Music. So maybe I'll be cheered up a bit by this time tomorrow.
I just booked my hotel room for my trip up to Iowa next weekend. wOOt. |

Had an excellent time at the maison du thorin2003 and concentricboy with neolamarie, millingroark, airbasejen, toppla, and onenightinstars. Oh, and chrysippvs, for a while. Went to temple beforehand; twas very nice. Then drank some Absolut Citron and cranberry juice and some beer made by Trappist Monks. Sweet. Also played a round of 'never have I ever' that was quite illuminating. Mwahahahahha.
Mainly I've been hanging out with my family and eating a lot (I've got to stop this, really) and sleeping. Saw Land of the Dead, and liked it, of course. I've talked to the Moops a bunch, but it's never enough. Going to see Drew tomorrow night, and then hang with my sister Ibbums Sunday night. Tomorrow my other sister, Nikole, is coming up from the coast with her kids, husband, and various pets to escape the storm. Excitement.
I think the jet lag is starting to really hit me. I feel sort of disoriented some of the time. *Shakes head as though to clear it*. I either need more sleep or more Absolut Citron. |

I've been having fun with my family and the friends I've been able to see so far, but right now I really just want to sleep. However, I hauled my laptop up here and messed with the wires to plug it into the cable modem, so I'm writing an entry, damn it!
I spent the 4th eating Wendy's and shopping with my parents. Got the third Phillip Pullman book in the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy, and I just can't put it down. Except to sleep.
Got to talk my Moops for over an hour on MSN last night. I love da moop!
Spent today eating Chinese (my life is centering around eating and sleeping right now) with my folks, my grandmother, and Ibbums and the munchkin, then hit some stores with Ibbums, then came back here to sleep (predictably) and then eat hamburgers, kosher hot dogs, mac and cheese, and baked beans with my folks and my friend Ryan. Ryan is going with me to Iowa to find an apartment on the 21st. I'm looking forward to taking a nice road trip. wOOt wOOt.
Oh, and I also went through this big pile of clothes my Ibbums gave me - I got some hella sweet suede jackets and some equally hella sweet leather jackets, in addition to an assortment of trousers, skirts, sweaters, and nice tops. Suh-weet.
Going to see Land of the Dead with the Cakes tomorrow. Nice.
Oh, I got my dissertation score. 68. Nice. I'm happy.
So, it's been good to be home. Lazy, but good. Hot, but good. In spite of how tangibly I miss the Moops, I am glad to be back with my family and Mississippi friends for a bit. Now for that 'sleep' thing I was talking about before. |

To be quite honest, I can't really remember much of what I did those last few days in Oxford. I saw ole Kenny from Millsaps one night at the Teddy Hall bar, I ate a lot of food (including tacos that I burned slightly), and I smooched the Moop a great deal. One day Moops and I climbed to the Anglo Saxon tower at the end of Cornmarket and I took some pictures.
( View of the Rad Cam, etc. )
( Looking down Cornmarket Street )
( Some fields or some such nonsense )
( Just to prove I was really up there )
( The most adorable Moops in the whole wide world )
We also rode that ride, The Oxford Story, that's basically like a Disney attraction about the history of the University. I rode it once back at the beginning of the year, but now I know more about Oxford and all, so it was like a whole new ride! :) It was fun.
Wednesday night Moops, Katherine, Robyn, Suchita, Davis, and I went to The Trout and had dinner. I ate WAY too much.
( Just to prove I'm not making the name up )
( Katherine and Suchita, with Suchita actually smiling! )
( El Robyn o )
( Some moopets )
( Some wacky kids )
Katherine drove us there and back, but because there were six of us she had to make two trips. Coming home, Davis, Moops, and I opted to wait for the second shift and walked along the edge of Port Meadow a ways for a while, which was good because it allowed the insane amount of food I had shovelled in my pie hole (steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding including) to settle a bit.
Thursday I finished up laundry, turned my laundry card back in to the college, packed up the rest of my stuff, left a bunch of stuff in the kitchen for my housemates to have, said tearful goodbyes, got into a cab, and made my way to our hotel at Gatwick with the Moops. We had a nice time watching some tv, and I had a nice time allowing Moops to rub my back and feet. It's ridiculous how fabulous he is.
( This was the view from our hotel room window that night )
And Friday was . . . well, Friday was hard. There were inconveniences, like the fact that one of my suitcases weighed too much and I had to take a bunch of stuff out of it and send it home with Moops, and the fact that the guy in front of me on the flight back to the States felt the need to put his seat back all the way while the flight was mid-takeoff and then kept it there for the whole flight, but the worst part of the day was obviously leaving my Moopet. I don't even want to talk about it, really, but it might just be the hardest thing I've ever done.
My flight from Dallas was delayed by about an hour and a half, so I didn't get into town until 7:30, but my folks were there to hug and smooch me and help me carry my insanely heavy luggage to the car (my shoulders and back still ache from all that heavy lifting). I went to eat a hamburger at Ruby Tuesday with them and my sister Ibbums, then came home and slept slept slept. Yesterday I made my first Wal Mart pilgramage and saw my Cakes, and today I went to Ibbums' house to help celebrate my Mom's birthday. I got to see my nephew Jake for the first time since Christmas; he is too precious for words.
( Preciousness that has no words )
I also got to talk to my Moops tonight! Yay yay yay yay!
Tomorrow: more Cakes. Probably more sleep, too. Certainly more Moops.
Peace out, and sorry for the length of this entry! |

| | Cat Power - "I Don't Blame You" | ] | So. The big news of today is that I FINALLY FREAKING GOT MY IPOD BACK. But not without a struggle, I assure you. This morning I called the customs people, who were very nice, and told me to call this company called ParcelForce, which basically handles any parcels that come into the U.K. So I call them, and go through this like twenty minute ordeal with their automated phone thing, and then I finally get to talk to an actual person, and they tell me, based on the tracking number I give them, that the package never reached the U.K. So I hang up and am upset and am all, "what the hell?". Then I remember this other tracking number that my mom gave me before that came off the receipt she got when she first mailed it. So I call the ParcelForce people back and go through the twenty minute ordeal again and talk to another human being and give her this number, and she tells me that the package was delivered to the Oxford depot last Monday and it's being held there until someone pays 53 pounds in customs charges. Were they ever going to notify me of this fact? Um, no. I guess it was just going to rot there until I became omniscient and went and picked it up. And what the hell with the 53 pounds? They are basically charging me the VAT tax like I'm importing the thing to sell it or something. Oy. I paid up, but I have a number to call tomorrow to see if I can get it back. But really, none of this matters because I have the damn thing back and it works! I christened it Lucy, and I love it. *Hugs it*.
In other news, Steven and I traipsed around three more colleges today: Hertford, Lincoln, and Keble. More picture action for everyone to be found here:
( In Hertford, hurricanes hardly ever happen )
( Hertford chapel, outside )
( Hertford chapel, inside )
( More quad action )
After Hertford, we went to the Bodleian gift shop so I could buy a poster of the oath one has to take when they first use the library (you know, not to kindle fires and all that). I think it will be neat framed. Then to the land of Lincoln we went.
( Everything in Lincoln is covered in ivy )
( I'm sure this will soon be covered in ivy )
( The ivy suddenly became green on our way out )
Now on to Keble, the land of the red bricks.
( El chapel o )
( More front quad action )
( The chapel, close up )
( And in color )
After all that, it was back here for iPod charging and closet/desk/etc. cleaning. Now I'm going swimming with Katherine and then eating cheese toast that Moops has promised to make for me. Yay! |

Apparently it's a popular site, because there were sign-posts leading us in the right direction the whole way. I expected more stuff to be on the grave (I remember watching some tv thing with elvenwear-clad folk gathered around it), but there just a few rosaries, some letters and poems, and a HUGE rosemary tree. | | Squeeze - "Take Me, I'm Yours" | ] | So last night my absolute worst nightmare ever came true.
It's been pretty hot here, and I've been sleeping with the windows open but the curtains drawn shut. This keeps out the majority of bugs, but last night there seemed to be a higher number than usual in my room, probably because it rained yesterday. Moops killed three or four bugs for me, then we settled down to go to sleep (Moops sleeps on this air mattress we bought because he is a huge smelly boy and there's not enough room for him in my bed! :) ). So I was drifting off a bit and settling down in a comfortable position, when I turned my head to face the other direction and saw some huge dark shape crawling on my pillow! I yelled and got up fast, and Moops dashed to turn on the light. And what was it, you might ask? A HUGE FREAKING SPIDER. A huge freaking spider was crawling on my pillow, inches from my face, and if I hadn't happened to see it it probably would have crawled into my ear and eaten my brains or something. Ok, maybe not, but I was seriously freaked out. We killed it and everything, but I absolutely wanted to die. Moops had to hold me to get me calm enough to go to sleep, and I'm still not really sure how I managed to sleep after that. *Huge shudder*.
So, in one day I realize a dream (see Milton's house) and a nightmare (come face to face with a spider in the safety of my own bed). Interesting. It must balance itself out, somehow.
In other news, Moops has started reading Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy, and I'm digging it. I'm about a third of the way through Northern Lights, and he's over there finishing The Subtle Knife as we speak. When I get home I'm going to put the series aside for a bit, though, and re-read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in anticipation of the new book. Who's with me at the book release party at Barnes and Noble? thorin2003? airbasejen? Come on, kids. You know you want to! |

| | Barenaked Ladies - "In the Car" | ] | It's good that we postponed our trip to Milton's Cottage to today and did outdoor things yesterday, because this morning we awoke to thunder and hardcore rain. Last night Katherine messaged me to see if I wanted to go to The Trout, this pub about a 45 minute walk that sits right on a river of some sort. I was a bit iffy on it at first, but when she revealed she'd be driving, I jumped right in! So Moops, Katherine, and I had a nice evening sitting by the river and watching the ducks, and decided that we want to go back there next Wednesday for dinner, as it will be my last night in Oxford and all. Twas lovely.
Today we set off about 1:30 and, despite our best efforts to get lost, managed to make it to Milton's Cottage at about 2:45. I couldn't take pictures inside, but it was so neat! We actually got to stand in the room in which Milton dictated Paradise Lost! They have lots of first editions of his poetry as well as portraits and statues of him, and we got to gawk at them and talk to the enthusiastic museum curator for about an hour or so. In the gift shop I bought the greatest thing ever - an eraser shaped like a book on which the words 'Paradise Erased' are printed. Mwahahhaah. Anyway, I did take some pics of the outside of the house and the garden, in spite of the rain, so let's get to them!
( First, Katherine being all cute driving us there )
( Milton is so popular! I mean, look how many cars were in the parking lot! (one was ours) )
( Across the street from the cottage, there's the Indian/Thai restaurant Milton used to frequent )
( Here's a creepy homage to Lycidas that was in the garden )
( The cottage, being charming )
( The Moops, moi, and the man who brought us together )
( More charming cottage-ness )
( Side view with sign )
( More of the same )
( Garden path )
( The pub of Milton's head )
( Stuck in the middle with you )
On the way out of town is a barn made from the remnants of the Mayflower. How crazy is that?
( Sailors were once in this structure )
And there we have it! My life is pretty much complete now. |

So after tea, Moops and I headed across the street to Queen's College, which I have a particular aversion to since Teddy Hall used to be part of Queen's! We'll probably go back there one day next week, though, because we couldn't go in the chapel today, but we still saw some lovely things.
( The front entrance, from the privileged view of an insider )
( Some random path we found, with views of the All Soul's spires and the top of the Rad Cam )
( The side facade of the library that can also be seen from New College Lane, which I walk down almost daily )
From there we went round to Oriel, which I had to navigate one time to go to a Jewish Student Organization meeting. It was much prettier this time, in daylight.
( One of the coolest things I've seen in a front quad )
( Some building )
( Some other building )
( Nifty window )
We stopped by Corpus Christi, but Moops says there's not much to see, and I only took one picture.
( The one picture )
Tired of college touring, we then headed to Marks & Spencer to buy fruit and other sundries, then headed toward the park and home. After depositing various items in my room, we decided to read in LMH's garden (where it would be less likely that a dog might pee on me), and did so (read, that is) happily for about two hours. On the way out, I took some pics of LMH has well.
( The garden path to happiness )
( The facade of some hall or another )
( The path one takes from the front quad to the gardens )
And that concludes our tour for the day!
Tomorrow Katherine is driving us to Chalfont St. Giles, where the fantastic Milton's Cottage resides. wOOt wOOt. Now back to the strawberries and loaf of challah I bought at M&S today! Yay! |

| | The Refreshments - "Down Together" | ] | Ok, kids! Here we go again!
So, let's see. I'll show you some pics of Teddy Hall first, then fill you in on the comings and goings of the past few days.
( The el library o as seen from the Fellow's Garden )
( The front quad, being its wee and adorable self )
( More neat stuff . . . yadda yadda yadda )
And, for good measure, a couple from the crypt, where they keep the college zombies.
( The area for blood sacrifice )
( The zombies were shy and wouldn't come out from behind these pillars )
Ok, that's done. So, lemme see. Yesterday the Moops and I got up and went to see Batman Begins, and along the way met up with our coursemate Rose, who admonished us for going to the movies on such a gorgeous day. Sometimes it's nice to sit in a movie theatre and eat some popcorn and poke the moop, though, so we went ahead with our plans. And I really liked it! I think it's going to save the Batman movie franchise, and I have to agree with mugabe - Christian Bale has never looked better! Yum.
So last night I was supposed to go to this schools dinner thing, but I had a lovely little breakdown instead! I'm disgusted with myself for gaining back the weight I lost last term, and none of the things I wanted to wear really fit, and I was just tired, hormonal, depressed, and (literally) hot, so I opted to stay in with the Moops and avoid anyone else. Oh well. I feel better today, though I'm still disgusted, and I unearthed some jeans I bought at Christmas that are still too big, so at least there's that.
Enough of that nonsense; let's get on to the sparkling jewel that was today! Looks like this is going to have to be a two part entry, so we'll have a nice little intermission in the middle, ok?
Moops and I decided to resume our tour of colleges today, and we started with Wadham, mainly because it lets visitors in an hour earlier than any of the others! Slightly unremarkable and yet still pretty, Wadham wasn't spectacular or anything, but it was worth seeing.
( The most interesting thing in Wadham, which is part of the front quad )
( I'm obsessed with light doing interesting things, and here light is doing interesting things in the Wadham chapel )
From there we went to Teddy Hall, where I had no mail (my iPod is in the Atlantic Ocean; I'm convinced) and was too early to buy a card for the washing machines. Oh, I forgot to write about that - since one of the washing machines broke, the company that supplies them decided to replace ALL the machines with ones that operate on cards, not coins, so we all have to buy cards and fill them up with at least 10 pounds at a time, a damned inconvenience for those of us leaving in a week! Thanks, machine company! So anyway, we went to Blackwell's to kill a bit of time, then moseyed on down to have a peek in Merton, which is pretty neat and has the oldest quad in Oxford.
( Not the oldest, but still neat )
( More proof that I'm obsessed with light, in the Merton chapel )
( Merton tower, with some of those spires folks are always going on about )
That 'oldest quad' thing was pretty boring, so I'll spare you. It looked old.
From there we went down to the Christ Church art gallery and poked around for a bit, then came back to Teddy Hall to purchase the laundry card now that the bursary was open, and then went to high tea at the Grand Cafe! It was slightly pricey, but well worth it - it's something I've been wanting to do for a long time! Lovely Earl Grey (and lovely french press coffee for Moops), smoked salmon and cream cheese sammiches, roast chicken sammiches, scones with cream and strawberry jam, and chocolate truffles. Yummmmmmm.
Ok, time for a break. Go get a scone or something. |

| | The Postal Service - "Nothing Better" | ] | So finally I have some pictures that don't involve sepia-tinted, old, crusty buildings! I just got back from the MCR garden party, and it was quite a nice time. Strawberries and cream, tiny sammiches, and champagne as far as the eye could see! I'm still a bit tipsy from the copious amount of champagne I had, so forgive me if I misspell things!
( Yours truly and Mr. Cherry )
( Suchita, who always seems to have her eyes closed in pictures, with her eyes surprisingly open )
( Some hot ladies named Me, Robyn, Suchita, Fiona, and Katherine )
( Said hot ladies and one perfect hot frat boy )
( Jennifer opening like the 100th bottle of champagne )
( Michael, the outgoing MCR president, and his adorable wife Becky )
( Davis looking mischevious )
( Katherine being her normal adorable self )
( A survey of the party scene )
( Davis doing some impromptu yoga )
I did actually take some sepia-tinted pictures of Teddy Hall, but I'll save them for another entry tomorrow or something.
I still haven't gotten my iPod, but I got an email from my Pops today, and he and my mom went to the Post Office and found out that it didn't even leave the states until the 10th, so I'm not so worried about it now. I just want it to get here before I leave. Sigh.
Ooh, and I almost forgot - we got to go in the Teddy Hall crypt, which is supposedly closed to visitors. Me, Becky, Katherine, Suchita, Davis, and this other Michael begged the porter for the keys, and he let us go in. It was creepalicious - I took some pics of that, too, and will post em later! |
